We were so lucky to be able to get away to Idyllwild with our small group. Here is a view of one of the lovely cabins we rented. They were so great and clean, with full kitchens. So much fun.
What is a retreat without good food? We had plenty of that, and good desserts, but here is a picture of one of our heirloom tomatoes.
Here are most of the kids in our group minus Gideon. They are all so sweet and had a great time exploring the forests of Idyllwild together.

Jacob's 2nd birthday
By the time Jakey's birthday rolled around, he was all better. This is 2 days after his surgery and one day before his real birthday. We decided just to do a small family party this year because he's still not able to understand and anticipate his big day. It was nice not to have a big party to plan especially with the craziness of the week. However, we still were able to have a nice celebration for Jakey. His favorite toy inside was his train and his favorite present for outside was the basketball hoop that dad got for him. I baked the French lemon yogurt cake from Homemade Life for his cake. He licked off some of the icing while I was putting it on. What else is a cake for anyway?
Jacob after surgery
Sometimes it's just hard to wake up. Here is our valiant warrior coming out of his surgery. He was a real trooper.

Jakey's surgery
Somehow my whole blog post about Jacob's surgery got erased. It probably had to do with the video. Anyway, I don't really feel like rewriting the whole thing, but basically we found a hernia Tuesday 7/28 and we took him to the hospital that night. They were going to try to do emergency surgery on him that night because the hernia wasn't going back in, but the complication was that there were no pediatric surgeons on-site. Once we got approval for the transfer to another hospital in the area, he had gone to sleep and the hernia went back in by itself. This reduced the need for surgery, so we had to wait and have it scheduled for Thursday. So, here he is--going in for surgery. He came out of it just fine, he wasn't sick or anything. He was also able to run and play as usual by the next day.
