Our old parking strip was just grass, and not very nice looking grass at that. Nate and I have had plans to change that forever, but we finally went through with the plans. We have had the succulents and the flagstone for a while. We found the flagstone at a house up the street. They were just going to dump it, so (Nate and a few friends) salvaged the flagstone and some river rock to use for landscaping. The succulents we found from a lady who has a whole yard full and sells them at pretty decent prices. Of course the compost was free --since we make it ourselves. All Nate had to do was run around to 3-4 nurseries to get all the plants we needed for the strip.
Our goal was to have mostly drought tolerant plants, and also to get a nice mixture of things that would grow taller and others that would be more ground cover.
Even the horrible city planted tree doesn't look so bad surrounded by nice plants.
